Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, who recently created Amal Clooney‘s wedding dress, died on Oct. 20 after battling cancer, a family member told ABC News.
Oscar, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, was 82 years old at the time of his death.
Oscar became interested in fashion when he was studying art in Spain, according to ABC News, and he found fame in the 1960s when first lady Jaqueline Kennedy frequently wore his designs. Soon thereafter, he launched his own label in 1965.
Since Jackie Kennedy, first ladies Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush have frequently worn Oscar de la Renta gowns.
Hillary recently introduced a retrospective of his designs, saying, “His name alone evokes elegance and timeless beauty. And his designs give each of us a chance to feel like we’re special, too,”
Other famous women who appreciated his work were Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, Taylor Swift, and Jessica Chastain.
