NO fewer than six female students, one of them a final year student of the Department of Library and Information Science, Delta State University, Abraka, were last Friday caught with “expo materials” during examination.

An examiner identified as Sylvester Okiemute caught a final year female student of the Department of Library and Information Science with incriminating materials during an examination.

Sources said the student was caught while sitting for an exam on ‘Entrepreneurship and Information Services’ who had been observing her suspicious moves.

There was commotion on Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos as members of the church rejected their pastor and chased him away for allegedly impregnating his housemaid.

It was learnt that the pastor, Barkuma Andrew, was stopped from leading the church seven months ago when the housemaid, who was also a member of the church, Grace, had complications after aborting the pregnancy.

Andrew lives with his wife, children, wife’s cousin, Favour, and Grace in a three-bedroom flat on the church premises.

Yoruba Will Regret Voting Buhari – Senator Femi Okunrounmu



A leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, says the Yoruba will regret voting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okunrounmu, who was the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference, had supported former President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term and asked the Yoruba to vote for him so that he would be able to implement the report of the conference.

However, Buhari received over two million votes from the South-West in the last election, defeating Jonathan in the process.

Fulani Herdsmen Kill 3 Peace Emissaries In Delta



Three persons have been killed and two others injured in renewed hostilities between Fulani herdsmen and residents of Okuke, a satellite village at Amorji in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The people of the community, it was gathered, had been at loggerheads with the herdsmen who they accused of destroying their farmlands and terrorizing them over the last three years.

An indigene of the community told newsmen that the herdsmen had threatened to chase the residents out of Okuke, a development which, he said, prompted Amorji to constitute a 15-man delegation to meet with them (the herdsmen) for a peace talk.

Probe: Go And Defend Yourself, Wike Tells Amaechi



RIVERS State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has called on his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, to go and defend himself before the judicial commission of inquiry sitting in the state.

Wike, who was reacting to Amaechi’s declaration on Saturday that he (Amaechi) would not appear before the Justice George Omereji-led panel of inquiry, said it was wrong for the former governor to describe the commission as illegal even when the court had ruled that the panel was in order.

The governor, who spoke on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said he would not take issues with Amaechi over the setting up of the judicial commission of inquiry.

Woman Delivers Quadruplets Four Years After Wedding (Photo)



A woman, simply identified as Mrs. Nwigboji, has delivered four male babies four years after her wedding. Mrs. Igboji delivered the quadruplets successfully at Mile Four Catholic Hospital, Abakaliki.

When New Telegraph visited the hospital at the weekend, the woman was said to be in stable condition but unable to speak but our Correspondent spoke to the husband, Chidubem Nwigboji, who was full of joy.

He disclosed that he wedded his wife in 2011 and they had been having difficulties in child bearing and had also been facing pressures from his parents and friends who had been pushing him to marry another wife which he refused.

His words: “We married since 2011 which after my wife suffered fibroid same year of the marriage. So, she underwent an operation and we began to wait for the fruit of the womb.

“Last year my wife told me that she was noticing a sign of pregnancy which I told her to wait, not until four months when I told her to go for ultra-sound. The report of the ultra-sound showed twins.

“After some time, I asked her to go back for another ultra-sound which she did and the number started increasing geometrically and finally it revealed quadruplets.”He called on couples, who are yet to bear children, to trust in God.

“I saw hell in those four years because there was nothing people did not tell me; some asked me to marry another wife that my wife may not bear child. Even members of my family could not help matters; there mounted serious pressure on me to go for an option of another wife and I promised God that I will not do that.

“Today, God has blessed me with all these babies at once and I am very grateful for what He has done. Although I don’t have money; but looking at these babies, I’m fulfilled,” he said.

The Nigerian military announced on Sunday that it has arrested a Boko Haram commander.

The army said the culprit was arrested in an operation by troops of 7 division along Aulari in Bama axis of Borno State. The insurgent leader, the military said, is currently undergoing investigation.

Meet The Woman Who Gave Birth To A Baby Without Limbs In Bauchi


A 20 year old indigene of Lussa in Bogoro Local Government Area in Bauchi, Blessing Samson, gave birth to a baby boy without limbs on July 4, 2015.

The baby Christened Chongfilawos, was born with only three fingers sticking out from shortened arms on each side of his shoulder.

Blessing who lives with her parents, Mr and Mrs Samson Baraya at their family house in Gudun Sayawa, said she delivered at home.

Witches Pushed Me To Rape 9-Year-Old Girl, Says Father Of 3


A 39-year-old father of 3, Ekpeyong Essien, who raped a 9 year old girl blamed his 2 sons, whom he alleged are witches, for pushing him to commit the crime.

Essien, who hails from Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, had on July 12, raped 9 year old Bright Benjamin, at Hawkins Primary School in the Calabar South area of the state capital.
He said the girl had approached him for money to pay her fares home, but he simply instructed her to follow him to a nearby primary school where he defiled her with his fingers.

President Buhari Appoints Mohammed Kari As Commissioner For National Insurance Commission



President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, July 31, appointed Alhaji Mohammed Kari as the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive of the National Insurance Commission. Kari replaces Fola Daniel.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the appointment, which is for a term of four years in the first instance, takes effect from Friday, July 31 2015.

The new Commissioner for Insurance started his career with Royal Exchange Assurance in 1979.

A 26-year old woman has reportedly drowned in well at Ijede area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. The unidentified woman was said to have fallen inside the 120 feet deep well accidentally.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe confirmed the tragedy to PM News, saying that the incident occurred on Thursday. He said the tragedy occurred at No 1, Babatunde Aina Street, Omitolo, Ijede area of Lagos.

Wickedness: Man Butchers Friend In Akwa Ibom (Viewers Discretion)



For residents of Itu Road, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Wednesday, woke to a horror sight, following the murder of a middle-aged barber by a close family friend and supposed boss.

Steven Onowa, a graduate of Federal Polytechnic Oko, from Anambra State, was later arrested by men of the Akwa Ibom State police command over the murder of Daniel Bassey Solomon, his close friend and barbing salon employee.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Onowa, who tried to escape after allegedly butchering his friend and dismembering him, was arrested with the aid of a GSM tracking device employed by officers and men of the Force.

Dead People Voted In Ohafia, Says APGA Candidate



Chief David Onuoha-Bourdex, the Abia-North senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the April legislative election, told the election petitions tribunal sitting in Umuahia that dead people voted in Ohafia.

Onuoha-Bourdex, who stated this while testifying before the tribunal on Tuesday, said that the results of the election which favoured the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, showed that dead people voted for him.

Port Harcourt, Warri Refineries Commence Petroleum Production – NNPC



The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC says the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have commenced petroleum production after some in-house engineers conducted a nine-month rehabilitation on both facilities.

The oil corporation announced this in a statement released by its General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Mr Ohi Alegbe yesterday. The statement in part reads

“What this means is that both plants have resumed production of petroleum products. For now, about 60 per cent of its 210,000 barrels per day production capacity is being achieved, but it is projected that it will hit its installed 125,000 barrels per day capacity soon,”

The statement added that the Port Harcourt refinery would eventually hit five million litres of petrol per day, while Warri would contribute 3.5 million litres of petrol.

TWO persons Thursday reportedly lost their lives in Ezillo community, Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State after eating a fresh fish alleged to be forbidden in the area.

Another victim was said to have become blind also after eating the said fish.

The victims (names withheld) are labourers who were hired by one Mr. Alieze for a construction work.

An eye witness who gave his name as Mrs. Odoh Onyinyechi told our correspondent that the victims who decided to go on break while working at the site, went to the near-by stream where they harvested the said fish.
The specie of the fish is forbidden by the community.

“A man from our community went to the town and brought people to work for him. The people later went to the stream to fetch water and came back with some fishes.

A 41-day-old baby, Zainab Olajide, has died after she was allegedly poisoned by her father, Kazeem Olajide, in a desperate attempt to divorce his wife. The incident happened at about 7am on Friday at Toluwalase Estate, Ijoko-Abule, in the Lemode area of Ogun State.

Punch Metro learnt that the mother, Abosede Ogundare, had left Zainab with Kazeem to sweep the compound only to come back and met the baby with foams gushing out from her mouth. According to Tribuneonline, a man who claimed to be a medical doctor, Taiwo Ogunlana and a nurse, Kafayat Oyekola, have been arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for carrying out an illegal abortion on one Miss Kemi Awoniyi.

Ogunlana, who claimed to have attended Lagos State University Teaching Hospital School of Nursing between 1979 and 1983, worked with the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.

PDP Broke, Plans To Reduce Staff By 50%



Two months after losing power at the national level and in majority of the states, the national leadership of the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has concluded plans to sack half of its workforce.

Towards this end, the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, has communicated the decision of the National Working Committee of the party to all its directors.

Oladipo made the party’s decision known via a memo dated July 29, 2015, which was directed to “all directors and PS/DD/HOD/SAs/PAs and Establishment Staff” of the party in Abuja.

New Head Of Multinational Joint Task Force On Boko Haram, Appointed



A new head of the multinational Joint Task force on Boko Haram has been appointed.

He is Major General Iliya Abbah.

Until his appointment, Maj. Abbah was the head of operations in the Niger Delta.

He takes over from Brig-Gen. T. Y. Buratai who was recently appointed the Chief of Army Staff by President Buhari.

It was learnt, that the searchlight of the anti-corruption agents was on civil servants that possess many properties in the Federal Capital Territory.
